Oa. Kiseleva et al., Slippage of the aqueous solutions of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide duringflow in thin quartz capillaries, COLL J, 61(2), 1999, pp. 263-264
The viscosity of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) solutions was measur
ed in thin (micron-sized) quartz capillaries as their surface was hydrophob
ized as a result of adsorption of the CTA(+) ions from a solution. At a con
centration of a 10(-4) M CTAB solution, corresponding to monolayer formatio
n, an increase in the solution flow rate was discovered, which may be inter
preted as slippage of the aqueous CTAB solution over the capillary surface.
The measured value of the coefficient of slippage, which is equal to 10(-5
) m(3)/N s, is close to that obtained earlier for the methylated quartz sur
face.
