Chemical preparation and crystal structure are given for a new monoval
ent-divalent cation cyclohexaphosphate, Cd2K2P6O18.8H(2)O. This compou
nd is triclinic P (1) over bar with the following unit cell parameters
: a = 7.403(2), b = 11.403(5), c = 14.113(4)Angstrom, alpha = 97.60(2)
, beta = 91.07(2), gamma = 82.01(2)degrees, Z = 2, V = 1169(1) Angstro
m(3) and Dx = 2.618 g.cm(-3). In its atomic arrangement, layers built
by CdO6 octahedra and P6O18 ring anions spread in planes (10 (1) over
bar). Between these layers are located other CdO6 octahedra, polyhedra
KO7 and KO9, and water molecules. Crystal structure was solved with a
final R value of 0.023 for 6405 independent reflections. The thermal
behavior has been investigated and interpreted by comparison with IR a
bsorption spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction experiments.
