Hydrothermal technique was developed together with a room temperature
process for the synthesis of the reduced cluster [Mo4O8(HAs3O7)(2)](4-
). The formation of this anion is favored in aqueous medium and does n
ot require high temperature, The 1,3-diaminopropane salt of this molec
ular anion was isolated and its structure determined by single crystal
X-ray diffraction. The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic system
P2(1)/n (No. 14) with a = 12.412(1) Angstrom, b = 9.175(1) Angstrom,
c = 13.819(2) Angstrom and beta = 103.11(1)degrees, V = 1532.7(6) Angs
trom(3), Z = 4. The structure determination was solved with 2594 uniqu
e reflections (I greater than or equal to 2 sigma(I)) up to R1 = 0.036
and wR2 = 0.081.
