Abstract
Electrochemical surface nitriding in a molten LiCl-KCl-Li3N system to which LiH was added as a hydrogen source has been investigated. The thickness of the nitride layer formed in the melt is much larger than that formed in a melt without LiH addition. This indicates that the existence of hydride ion in the melt affects the nitride formation and accelerates its growth. (C) 1999 The Electrochemical Society. S1099-0062(99)01-090-1.
