Electrochemical surface nitriding in a molten LiCl-KCl-Li3N system to which
LiH was added as a hydrogen source has been investigated. The thickness of
the nitride layer formed in the melt is much larger than that formed in a
melt without LiH addition. This indicates that the existence of hydride ion
in the melt affects the nitride formation and accelerates its growth. (C)
