Abstract
Local pH change at n-GaAs cathodes was determined quantitatively by in situ infrared spectroscopy under conditions where diffusion of H-(aq(+)) toward the surface is rate limiting. A shift of the near-surface pH from 2 to mor e than 12 was evidenced by a change of the dominant phosphate species from H3PO4 and H2PO4- to HPO42- and PO43-. (C) 1999 The Electrochemical Society.
