Abstract
A diode-pumped bulk Er3+:Yb2+:glass laser has been passively CW modelocked for thr first time. Reliable, self-starting passive modelocking using semic onductor saturable absorber mirrors (SESAMs) is demonstrated, with pulses a s short as 2.5 ps bring obtained with an average output power of 68mW at th e telecommunications wavelength of similar to 1.5 mu m.
