Abstract
3-(Iodophenyl) isocoumarins (7a-c) were synthesized by the condensation of homophthalic acid (5) with iodobenzoyl chlorides (6a-c) which on alkaline h ydrolysis gave keto-acids (8a-c). (dl)-3-(Iodophenyl)-3,4-dihydroisocoumari ns (11a-c) were obtained by reduction of keto-acids (8a-c) to racemic hydro xy-acids (10a-c) followed by cyclodehydration using acetic anhydride.
