Abstract
Condensation of 3-amino-2-naphthamide (I) with aldehydes in equimolar propo rtions in hot acetic acid results in 2,3-dihydro-2-substituted benzo [g] qu inazolin-4 (1H)-ones (II). Dehydrogenation of II using potassium permangana te in acetone leads to 2-substituted benzo [g] quinazolin-4 (3H)-ones (IV). All the compounds have been characterized by elemental analyses, IR, mass and H-1 NMR spectral data.
