We measured and analyzed the reciprocating motion of a magnet floated above
a YBa2Cu3Ox superconductor. Frequency dependences of the amplitude and pha
se of the reciprocation implied that the reciprocating motion has one degre
e of freedom. A mechanical model with a mass, a spring, and a dashpot was u
sed to analyze the reciprocation characteristics. By adding frequency and d
isplacement dependences of the pinning effect to the mechanical model, we o
btained good agreement between analytical and experimental results.
