A gated, multiframe microchannel plate soft X-ray sensor with quantitative
acquisition has been developed. The system is composed of an image acquisit
ion system and a gated pinhole camera capable of taking four successive fra
mes at a time resolution of similar to 220 ps. The response of the system h
as been quantitatively investigated. To perform a quantitative evaluation o
f the captured X-ray images, the image acquisition and measurement of the p
hosphor current are executed simultaneously in the experiment. The system h
as been examined using a plasma X-ray source generated by a plasma focus de
vice with an additional gas puff. The compression and bifurcation process o
f plasma hot spots in a neon puffed experiment has been successfully record
ed. Quantitative analysis of the images indicates that an order of 10(16) p
hotons/(s.mm(2).mrad(2)) emissions originate from the plasma in a soft X-ra
y region 6-14 Angstrom.
