Abstract
There is no need for systematic nasogastric tube after elective abdominal a nd digestive surgery. Expected benefits are comfort for the patient, reduct ion of pulmonary morbidity, and rapid oral feeding. Only 5 % of the patient s will need a subsequent placement of nasogastric tube, due to vomiting and abdominal distention, with no adverse effects.
