Abstract
Synthesis of Pd nanoparticles by evaporation of Pd vapor generated by induc tive heating of a metal ingot followed by rapid condensation in a jet aeros ol Row condenser (JAFC) is simulated. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) el ucidate the detailed temperature and velocity profiles in the complex geome try of the JAFC. A model is developed by interfacing simple jet correlation s for temperature and velocity with monodisperse aerosol dynamics. It is sh own that coagulation is a dominant process for particle growth. The model p redictions for the average particle diameter are within a factor of two fro m the experimental data without any adjustable parameters. (C) 1999 Elsevie r Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
