The chromatographic behavior of Cu(II), Pd(II), Ni(II), Co(II), and Fe(III)
chelates of naphthylbismuthol was studied by thin-layer chromatography on
silica gel (Silufol plates). Conditions were selected for the separation of
three-component Pd(Ni)-Co-Cu chelate mixtures using mixtures of n-heptane
with benzene (chloroform or toluene). It is shown that retention obeys to t
he Snyder-Soczewinski displacement model and is accompanied by the displace
ment of one benzene (chloroform or toluene) molecule. At high concentration
s of the polar component in the mobile phase, solvates of the composition 1
: 1 are probably formed (this is also true for metal chelates of 1-(2-pyri
dylazo)-2-naphthol and (1-(2-thiazolylazo)-2-naphthol).
