Mm. Mccann et Ds. Ballantine, Characterization of amine functionalized stationary phases using linear solvation energy relationships, J CHROMAT A, 837(1-2), 1999, pp. 171-185
In a continuing effort to develop quantitative structure-solubility relatio
nships, this work describes the characterization of four amine functionaliz
ed stationary phases: Quadrol, tetraethylene pentamine, phenyldiethanolamin
e succinate, and triethanolamine. Solubility properties of these materials
were examined using linear solvation energy relationship of the following f
orm:
log K = c + r(1)R(2) + s(1) pi(2)(H) + a(1)Sigma alpha(2)(H) + b(1)Sigma be
ta(2)(H) + l(1) log L-16
in which the coefficients (subscript 1) represent the ability of the statio
nary phase to engage in specific interactions. These coefficient values wer
e correlated with the fraction of amine functionalities in the phase, and w
ere quantitatively compared with literature values for similar nitrogen con
taining (amide) stationary phases. (C) 1999 Published by Elsevier Science B
