K. Georgilis et P. Athanassiades, Leukocytosis associated with and localized bladder cancer: Resolution withradiation therapy, J UROL, 161(5), 1999, pp. 1567-1567
Malignant tumors are occasionally associated with significant leukocytosis,
(1) which is attributed to production of colony-stimulating factors.(2,3) B
ladder carcinoma is rarely associated with paraneoplastic leukocytosis, whi
ch is noted in the presence of metastatic disease and has been shown to res
ult from autonomous production of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor by
the tumor.(4,5) We report a case of localized transitional cell carcinoma o
f the bladder with severe leukocytosis, which resolved with radiation treat
ment of the tumor.
