Abstract
Enhanced side-mode suppression in a distributed-feedback (DFB) structure wi th gain which is optically pumped to produce lasing action can be achieved when the structure is apodized. Side-mode suppression exceeding 50 dB in a phase-shifted apodized DFB fiber laser is experimentally observed. (C) 1999 Academic Press.
