E. Otero et al., Corrosion behavior of IN-800 superalloy in waste-incineration environments: Hot corrosion by molten chlorides, OXID METAL, 51(5-6), 1999, pp. 507-525
The corrosion resistance of the IN-800 superalloy in contact with a molten
mixture of (52-48) mol.% PbCl2-KCl, similar to that found in,waste-incinera
tion plants, has been studied. The corrosion kinetics have been analyzed us
ing continous-current electrochemical techniques and electrochemical-impeda
nce spectroscopy (EIS). Studies were performed to determine the influence o
f temperature and of the presence of carbon in the salt on the corrosion ra
te. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and electron probe microanalysis (EP
MA) rr ere used as additional techniques to analyze the corrosion products
in order to elucidate the corrosion mechanism.
