Abstract
A new method to predict the average lifetime of a chaotic transient versus a system parameter is studied for the case that a chaotic attractor is conv erted into a chaotic transient upon a boundary crisis. This method is compa red with numerical experiments using four maps with different critical expo nents. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V.
