Abstract
Physics studies are carried out on the plasma of the large helical device ( LHD), the experiment which began at the National Institute for Fusion Scien ce (NIFS). LHD is a flexible device and can operate in various configuratio ns. Characteristics of the plasma are investigated and confinement improvem ent is discussed.
