Measurement of the thermal resistance of paint coatings using a simple transient cooling method

During the preliminary calculations of the overall heat transfer rates for some applications in marine systems, it became apparent that the controllin g medium could be the thermal resistance of the paint film. A thorough lite rature search was carried out but no data could be found and as a consequen ce it was recognized that the properties would have to be determined experi mentally. The approach adopted was to measure the rate of temperature fall of a body as it cooled by forced convection in an airstream.
