The principles of operation of a magnetic force microscope are considered.
The main applications of magnetic force microscopy are characterised. Good
prospects of this method for solving problems of materials science, includi
ng the most topical problem - creation of high-density magnetic recording m
edia - are shown. Unique possibilities for the investigation of nanostructu
res offered by combination of the magnetic force microscopy with electron-s
pin and nuclear magnetic resonances are noted. Primary attention is devoted
to the description of experimental technique.
