A prospective office-based study was undertaken to evaluate the rate of suc
cess of single-vision, bifocal trifocal, and progressive lenses to correct
presbyopia. Results suggest that successful presbyopia correction varies wi
th individual patient characteristics. Approximately one-third of the study
subjects opted for progressive lens correction, one-third for conventional
segmented bifocals, and one-third for single-vision lenses. Involving each
patient in the nuances of the lens selection process is critical to accura
te presbyopic fit.
