Abstract
Atmospheric chemistry is one of the key mission targets for the Envisat sat ellite, being prepared for launch in 2000. With the recent delivery of the GOMOS instrument (manufactured by Matra Marconi Space in Toulouse) to the p rime Contractor for integration into the satellite flight model, a major pr ogramme milestone has been achieved. Given the outstanding performance of t he instrument that has been demonstrated in testing, GOMOS can be expected to deliver high-quality observations of ozone and other trace gases from sp ace.
