In an earlier study (Tummers [1]) experimental data were presented for the
turbulent near wake of a flat plate subjected to an adverse pressure gradie
nt. This paper presents new data on the simultaneous effects of curvature a
nd adverse pressure gradient. The results are compared with new data for th
e wake under zero pressure gradient. The measurements were performed with a
three-component laser-Doppler velocimeter, and include mean velocities and
Reynolds stresses. Temporal correlation functions of the streamwise veloci
ty component were measured to determine the dissipation length scales. Thes
e data can be used as a testcase for turbulence models. (C)1999 Elsevier Sc
