Radiotherapy is an effective and successful form of treatment for carcinoma
of the cervix, especially in advanced tumour stages. With the advancing te
chnical and medical developments, more individual treatment options have be
en created in the areas of both computer-assisted teletherapy and modern in
tracavitary afterloading brachytherapy with step-moved sources, and radiati
on protection has also been improved. Nonetheless, there are still varying
irradiation and treatment strategies and very different patient populations
, which makes a direct comparison of the results and the side effects of th
erapy difficult. The decision in favour of radiotherapy should therefore no
t be based on published treatment results alone, but also on the options av
ailable on the spot.
