R. Nandan et Uk. Prasad, Effect of irrigation and nitrogen on growth and seed yield of French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris), I J AGRON, 43(3), 1998, pp. 550-554
A field experiment was conducted at Pusa (Bihar) during the winter season (
rabi) of 1991-92 and 1992-93, to study the response of irrigation and nitro
gen fertilization on French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.). Significant incre
ase in seed yield was recorded with 3 irrigations in both the years. During
the first year, it was maximum when irrigation was applied on days interva
l basis, while during second year an at IW : CPE ratio of 0.8. The differen
ce between 2 and 3 irrigations applied through both the approaches was not
significant in the second year. Growth and yield attributes were maximum un
der 2-3 irrigations, whereas water-use efficiency was maximum with 1 irriga
tion. Inconsistent results were observed for plant height, branches and lea
ves/plant with 80 and 120 kg N/ha during both the years. There was a linear
increase. in Seed yield and pods/plant due to increase in N level from 40
to 120 kg/ha. Seeds/pod and test weight increased significantly up to 80 kg
N/ha.
