The dissociation of N2O+ from the states reached by one-photon ionisation a
t 58.4 and 30.4 nm has been examined by photoelectron-photoion coincidence
spectroscopy. At 30.4 nm, ions formed in some inner valence states dissocia
te rapidly enough to show a forward/backward asymmetry between the electron
and fragment ion ejection directions. In the 19 to 20 eV energy region, th
e dissociation characteristics suggest the existence of an additional elect
ronic state. The kinetic energy releases identify the final channels in dis
sociation from several states; the energy releases in N-2(+) formation from
states in the inner valence region are consistent with known fluorescence
emission from N-2(+) (B (2)Sigma(u)(+)) fragments and suggest that emission
s from N-2(+) (A (IIu)-I-2) may also be present. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science
