This paper describes how Sollac set up a sizing press at its Fos-sur-Mer pl
ant in the South of France. The company decided to install large slab width
reduction facilities at the hot strip mills in Dunkerque, Seremange, and F
os. Close collaboration between various departments, as well as the partici
pation of Sollac suppliers, led to rapid construction with minimal downtime
. Following startup at Fos in 1995, initial results have been in excellent
agreement with expectations. An increase of 7% of the mean slab width and o
f the continuous casting output has been achieved.
