Abstract
This paper describes how the design for the tubular steel arch bridge which crosses the River Tees Barrage has been developed from the origi nal architectural concept. Decisions made during the design process ar e discussed, and insights into the unusual behaviour of the structure gained from detailed computer analysis are highlighted, Other structur es associated with the Barrage and the fabrication and erection of the main bridge are described.
