Abstract
Single crystals of the aluminum tungstate-scandium tungstate solid solution were grown by the modified Czochralski (CZ) method. The crystals obtained were transparent and shown to have satisfactory quality by polarizing micro scope observations. The single crystals were demonstrated to contain both A l and Sc elements by electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) measurements and t he Al : Sc trivalent cation ratio in the solid solution was precisely deter mined to be 8.5 : 1.5 from the lattice parameters obtained by the X-ray pow der diffraction analysis.
