B. Fischer et al., The use of time-dependent magnetic fields for control of convective flows in melt growth configurations, J CRYST GR, 199, 1999, pp. 170-175
The influence of a rotating magnetic field on buoyancy driven convection in
a Rayleigh-Bernard configuration (vertical cylinder) and on Marangoni conv
ection in a Boating zone configuration was investigated experimentally and
numerically. The main result of our study is that temperature fluctuations
caused by time-dependent buoyancy and Marangoni convection can be damped by
using a rotating magnetic field with relatively small held strength. (C) 1
