Abstract
The influence of a rotating magnetic field on buoyancy driven convection in a Rayleigh-Bernard configuration (vertical cylinder) and on Marangoni conv ection in a Boating zone configuration was investigated experimentally and numerically. The main result of our study is that temperature fluctuations caused by time-dependent buoyancy and Marangoni convection can be damped by using a rotating magnetic field with relatively small held strength.
