Abstract
The hydroxyapatite-octacalcium phosphate interface was observed by high-res olution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) in crystals grown from aqu eous solutions under microgravity and terrestrial conditions. The Digital-M icrograph software was used in order to perform phase analysis in nanoscale from experimental HRTEM images. The difference between space- and earth-gr own octacalcium phosphate crystals is in amounts and sizes of the hydroxyap atite regions included in the crystals. Possible orientation relationships between two phases were determined. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All righ ts reserved.
