The Fermi surface of the charge transfer salt alpha-(BEDT-TTF)(2)KHg(S
CN)(4) includes both quasi-one and quasi-two dimensional orbits. Below
8 K, the open orbits under go a Peierls-like transition. Here the ang
ular dependent magnetoresistance exhibits periodic dips with tilt angl
e in constant magnetic field, where the period depends on the axis of
rotation. This behavior has been interpreted as the result of open orb
it sheets in the reconstructed Fermi surface. In angular dependent mag
netic torque measurements we find no evidence for the periodic behavio
r seen in the magnetotransport data. We compare our results with studi
es an open orbit material.
