Abstract
In this paper, two different braiding systems were proposed in order to enh ance the strength of thick composite tubes. In particular, the objective wa s to achieve high strength by controlling the occurrence and propagation of delaminations. In the proposed tubes, braiding fibers propagate in the rad ial direction of the tube. Two types of self-reinforced tubes, multi-recipr ocal tubes and multi-layered tubes, were fabricated and their lateral compr essive properties were examined. In the case of multi-reciprocal tubes, the propagation of delamination could be impeded by the fiber bundles oriented through the thickness. In the case of multi-layered tubes, the occurrence of delamination could be restrained by the fiber bundles oriented through t he thickness.
