Abstract
A rapid HPLC method of analysis for ergovaline in tall fescue plants i s presented; it offers the advantages of utilizing readily available m aterials that are safer to use than those in previous methods. In addi tion, the sample preparation and chromatographic method allow for the detection and quantification of both C-8 epimers of the target alkaloi d. Inclusion of the epimer in the analysis procedure provides a more a ccurate method of determining total ergovaline in plant materials.
