Abstract
Binding of the isolated 70-kDa sigma subunit (sigma-70) of Escherichia coli RNA polymerase with oligodeoxyribonucleotides (ON) corresponding to region s -10 and -35 of the spc promoter of E. coli ribosomal genes was studied by gel filtration and gel retardation assay. The preparation of sigma-70 was shown to contain no admixtures of DNA-binding proteins using 4-[N-methyl-N- (2-chloroethyl)amino]benzyl-5'-phosphamide derivatives of ON.
