The main task of the arterial system is to secure an adequate supply of oxy gen to organs. This fact implies the integration of multiple signals in the vascular wall. This review deals with the exchange of information between and among smooth muscle and endothelial cells through gap junctions in the vessel walls of arteries and arterioles.
