A self-consistent calculation of the bremsstrahlung emissivity for a hot op
tically thin plasma in a strong external magnetic field is presented. The e
missivity is calculated fur a nonthermal electron velocity distribution f(u
psilon). Two competing elementary processes are taken into account, i.e., C
oulomb scattering and resonant cyclotron emission, which lead to a depopula
tion of f(upsilon) above the cyclotron energy. The resulting spectra show a
n extremely narrow line feature at the cyclotron frequency. The total brems
strahlung emissivity as a function of the plasma temperature and the magnet
ic field is also given.
