Pyomyositis is an acute bacterial infection of the skeletal muscles frequen
tly associated with abscess, and it is common in tropical areas and uncommo
n in our regions, but during the last few years there was an increase of py
omyositis in the temperated areas that induced some authors to identify a n
ot tropical pyomyositis, different from the typical tropical ones. The not
tropical pyomyositis is more frequent in immunitary deficiencies. Muscle tr
aumas are the main causes of pyomyositis, while in other cases the pathogen
esis remains obscure.
We are now going to describe the onset of a pyomyositis case in apparently
good health and with meningeal involvement.
