Actinomycosis is a chronic infectious disease with a tendency to multiple d
raining sinus and fistulas, caused by Gram positive microorganisms. We repo
rt a two years and one month old girl who was admitted to our hospital due
to a mass close to thyroid gland. Furthermore we discuss about the difficul
ty of differential diagnosis caused by the unusual young age of the patient
and by the uncommon location, and we underline the importance of ecography
of the involved abscess and the special histological stains of the tissues
as reliable tools.
