Abstract
The resistance of a magnetic multilayer changes dramatically when applying a magnetic field. This is the giant magnetoresistance phenomenon, discovere d in 1988 and now applied to the fabrication of read-heads for magnetic rec ording as well as various types of sensors. This paper gives a review of gi ant magnetoresistive effects observed in layered magnetic structures.
