The ecological behavior of 62 vascular plant species of the ground-cover ve
getation of forests was investigated with regard to soil humidity and soil
acidity. The study concentrated on soils from moderately dry to moderately
moist. Most species show a wide amplitude with regard to the moisture facto
r. Partly they are more likely to be found at more dry sites and partly at
sites with sufficient water supply. Some of the species can even be found o
n wet soils. The amplitude of most species is also wide with regard to acid
ity. The mainly applies to species which inhabit slightly acidic to moderat
ely acidic sites. Several good indicator plants can be found for highly aci
dic to acidic soils. Only few species, however, can be characterised as lim
estone indicators.
