Glucose can produce H2O2 in solution when irradiated with UV light even in
the absence of glucose oxidase. Based on this effect, photons were utilized
as a substrate for glucose oxidase, and a new fluorescent method was devel
oped for indirect determination of glucose by a coupled fluorescence reacti
on of p-hydroxyphenyl acetic acid and H2O2 with hemin as a catalyst. The ca
libration graph is linear over the range 0-6.0 x 10(-7) mol/l glucose, the
detection limit is 1.7 x 10(-8) mol/l glucose. The method has been applied
to the determination of glucose in human sera with satisfactory results. (C
