Abstract
The Taylor-Galerkin finite element model (TGFEM) is second-order accurate i n time. However, it provides oscillatory results for advection dominated tr ansport. The objective of this paper is to develop criteria for the TGFEM t o provide: oscillation-free accurate results. The accuracy of the TGFEM was evaluated by comparing its prediction with the corresponding analytical so lution. The model was found to provide oscillation-free accurate results fo r Peclet number, Pe, as high as 20 and Courant number Cr less than or equal to 0.10. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Inc.
