B. Morel et al., Statistical distributions for air pollution applied to the study of the particulate problem in Santiago, ATMOS ENVIR, 33(16), 1999, pp. 2575-2585
An expression relating the distribution of concentrations of air pollutants
to the emission levels is derived and applied to the study of the air poll
ution problem of Santiago de Chile. Features specific to the area, like the
geography and meteorology are included in a stochastic framework. The resu
lting distribution is simple. It has two parameters which can be easily est
imated from the data. It fits well the data from Santiago and is a powerful
tool to analyze pollution data and design a mitigation strategy. The metho
dology developed here can be applied to any city. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science
