Reflection properties of a planar infinite periodic array of rectangular, p
erfectly conducting patches in free space are analyzed. The analysis is bas
ed on modal formulations involving the Floquet theorem. Once the proper bou
ndary conditions have been enforced, the resulting equations are solved usi
ng Galerkin's method. Entire-domain sinusoidal basis functions are employed
for this purpose. The analysis is applied through numerical computations i
n which only the aspect ratios of the patches are varied. Consequently, the
effects of changing aspect ratios can then be studied. The reflection prop
erties considered in these computations are the variations of reflection co
efficients with respect to parameters such as frequencies, TE incident angl
es, number of basis functions, and number of Floquet node terms.
