As a part of a sexual behaviour study, the main sources of information conc
erning sexuality were investigated by the means of an anonymous questionnai
re in representative sample of the Czech Republic population older than 15
years (862 men and 857 women).
According to the obtained results, it is possible to claim that peers repre
sent the most important source of information concerning sexuality in the C
zech population. The family and the school don't fulfil their role sufficie
ntly but at the same time it is evident that more women than men acquire th
e information in the family and in the school and on the contrary, more men
among peers. Dividing the studied sample into the age categories shows the
inter-generation comparison giving evidence about positive trends the data
document the gradually increasing importance of family and school sexual e
ducation and decreasing importance of peers as the prevailing source of inf
ormation. At the same time, the informational importance of audiovisual and
printed media is increasing in the youngest age groups of population.
