Abstract
Thorium(IV)(2-methyl-8-quinolinolate)(4) shows an intraligand fluorescence at lambda(max) = 510 nm. In addition, the complex displays a heavy-atom-ind uced intraligand phosphorescence (lambda(max) = 775 nm) which appears at ro om temperature in solution and can be quenched by oxygen. It is suggested t hat Th(IV) is generally suited as an excellent probe for the phosphorescenc e of organic ligands. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
