Drape trials were conducted on a simple shape and a number of aircraft part
s. Predictions from computer drape simulation using the pin-jointed net mod
el were compared with draping test results. The pin-jointed net model was e
valuated. Yarn slippage, and how it is affected by the material properties
and part geometry, were investigated. The criteria for optimal draping, and
the means of manipulation of the drape simulation are discussed. The diffe
rent methods of draping constraint are compared and their most useful appli
cations are indicated. Some useful guidance for the application of drape si
mulation is given. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
