A case of myositis of both temporalis muscles in a craniofacial cleft is de
scribed. The patient was a 19-year-old male who underwent orbital transloca
tion for hypertelorism thirteen months previously. He complained of bilater
al painful temporal swellings and trismus with a high fever. Initially, ant
ibiotic therapy seemed to be effective. At operation both temporalis muscle
s were slightly edematous but normal in color. No pus nor necrotic tissue w
as seen. A titanium plate and screws covered by the muscle on each side wer
e removed. The postoperative course was uneventful. The histopathological d
iagnosis of the biopsied muscle was myositis.
